Worship More, Spend Less, Give More, Love All

Advent continues to approach quickly. This Saturday our church, Imago Dei Community, is holding a "Do It Yourself Fair" where our people will be equipped with ideas and resources on how to make creative gifts for Christmas inexpensively. Additionally, we will be having break our seminars to hit different topics (I'll be teaching one on "leading your family through Advent") to help lead our people through this meaningful experience we call Advent Conspiracy. There are over 1000 churches participating with us this year! Amazing.

What is interesting is that the culture is apparently talking and dealing with the same issues we are. Check out this trailer for a new film coming out called "What Would Jesus Buy?"

Check out the You Tube video below. It was created by Brandon McCormick and the creative team at Whitestone Motion Pictures. Brandon is a collaborator and participant at Q and this video is partially inspired by Advent Conspiracy. “Consumerism: The Musical,” has been chosen as a You Tube Editors Choice multiple times in the past 2 months and has received rave reviews and comments. As you watch these videos, be reminded that the Christmas season is near. You WILL be bombarded with marketing geniuses trying to sell you everything imaginable. Conspire with us to say no to consumerism, and yes to worshipping Jesus.

You don't have to have it all figured out. Just take a step this year. Even if it's a small step. Imagine what Christmas could look like for your family in 20 years if you take another step each year.

My wife and I have decided to start our own AC tradition. This is our first year. We hope to celebrate with our own age old traditions (we too like egg nog).

I am trying to put together a meaningful present for my wife, and I have been so excited about it, that it has been easy for me to resist going for the easy consumer purchase. Assuming I can pull it off, she will be much more satisfied with the present.

For a run-down on my gift (and a chance to contribute), visit www.motherletter.blogspot.com. There is also a place for other conspirators to share what they are doing.
